Jaipur, Sep 7 (IANS) Jewellery shopping will never be the same again in this Rajasthan capital with a speciality mall for jewellery, gems, watches and high value lifestyle accessories coming up in the next two years.
The Aerens Group, one of India's leading real estate developing houses, Wednesday announced the launch of the Rs.800 million Gold Souk.
'We are going to start work within the next two months and hope to complete the project during Diwali in 2007', G.S. Pillai, director of Aerens Goldsouk International Limited told reporters here.
He claimed that the mall will not only attract customers from the city and neighbouring towns of Rajasthan like Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, Udaipur, but also be a centre of attraction for tourists from neighbouring states of Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh as well as from abroad.
The Souk will have six levels enclosing 300,000 square feet.
There will be 150 shops for jewellers and 200 office spaces for jewellery traders, exporters and agents.
Along with the Gold Souk, another one-of-its-kind concept Gem Souk is being launched which will be the first business-to-business mall for gems and jewellery manufacturers, traders and exporters.
Gem Souk will be situated in the third and fourth floors of the Gold Souk and will have similar facilities matching the international gem bourses, he pointed out.
According to Surender K. Gupta, chairman and managing director of Aerens, the new set-up would change the way of shopping for weddings and other festive occasions.
The first Gold Souk in the country opened in Gurgaon, Haryana in October 2004. Since then souks have been launched in Ludhiana, Punjab and Kochi, Kerala. Similar projects would come up in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
